Background information: Daphne Logos is a librarian in Torin City. Daphne was inspired by the writings of "the great storyteller" Heseodorus and wanted to amass as much knowledge as she could through historical and non-historical writings. During her service in the Torinian Legion, Daphne was a bookkeeper. In her free time, she began collecting every piece of literature she could find. As soon as Torin began to engage in trade with civilizations beyond its gates, her collection grew immensely. Eventually, her skill in gathering and organizing information was recognized by the Legion, and she was entrusted with the care of many priceless records.

Daphne is also the adoptive mother of the rock harpy Gale. Gale was left at the Zoological Institute's nursery as a chick by her mother because she couldn't speak, despite being developed enough to fly and hunt. The Institute's founder, Sophethia Korele, examined her but found no medical reason why she was unable to speak. Daphne heard about the strange case and came to see Gale for herself. She brought books and sat down to read to the young harpy who, even though she was a chick, was already double the height of most humans. Daphne could tell that Gale took great interest in listening to her read, and so she continued to visit her.

Gale's mother eventually disappeared without a word, leaving Gale in the Institute's care. About a month later, Daphne had a cabin built on the land between the walls so that she could adopt Gale and live with her. Daphne taught Gale how to read and write. Many months after being adopted by Daphne, Gale broke her silence. It was never determined why the harpy's speech was delayed for so long, but she spoke perfectly well when it finally happened.

Daphne didn't just teach Gale how to read. By dictating to the librarian, Gale has even been able to write her own books. Her adoptive mother has encouraged her to continue seeking out stories to hear and to tell her own stories to others, even if they are not of her species.
