So how do I feel about this story:
It's a decent read, the Tropes are used in a entertaining way, you used your words to paint a nice picture in my head. One of the few criticism I can think of right now is the pacing could speed up more, and the exposition could be more smooth and less clunky, and I wish I got to learn more about a couple more characters.
Overall it's a nice start to your writing journey, I read it to start to finish, and I hope you get better.
So, after reading the whole story as thoroughly as I dared, one last surprise leaps at me: I hadn't really paid attention to the bit about "a Felarya story about enduring humanity when the world asks you to become a monster". I'll say it does deliver on that, as we do see people tested in circumstances that contrive to render them cruel or desperate, finding a way through in kindness to each other.
Its origin as a script can't be ignored; it is a weakness, in that literary descriptions simply aren't here. It is also a strength: the prose is stripped of everything superfluous, making it brisk, yet very meaning-dense. Some things I read disagreed with me, but it never…
Torin Youth itself is set in the world of Felarya, just like the concept itself it may scare some people way from the depictions of certain themes throughout. While some concepts of Felarya do appear throughout the story, it builds its own lore on top of what exists. As underneath it's surface is a fairly competent attempt at making their world seem more believable, as it chooses not to heavily focus around just one theme at a time. Making the barrier of entry much easier than ever before.
The story primarily focus on being quite serious throughout but it does throw some comedic moments in-between to build up the tension later on. Its an action adventure story, following the concepts…
A compelling and vividly-composed Felaryan drama that's by turns suspenseful, action-packed, surprising and quite often poignant. The setting and story are distinctly Felaryan, yet infused with a flair and mythic flavour unique to itself. Highly recommended.
