Flare Harpies are a rare breed of harpy that have an affinity for fire magic and are typically found in dry tropical climates such as the Akaptor Desert. Generally, Flare Harpies have a bronze skin tone and white feathers. Despite the fact that these harpies have an affinity for fire magic, very few have mastered it beyond enveloping themselves in brilliant light, even if only for a few seconds—an ability which they can use to temporarily blind opponents. Though extremely unlikely, it has been suggested that the most proficient can emulate the brightness and intensity of the sun. A peculiar myth about the sun rising at night may have been inspired by a Flare Harpy sighting (in particular Ourana).

Their eggs are highly sought after by wealthy collectors for their shine and sparkling gold speckles. They’re also desired by alchemists who believe the egg shells can be used to create incredibly potent potions. The danger that treasure hunters face is that Flare Harpies eggs are very hot to the touch and stealing them can be akin to playing a game of hot potato, only the potato is a giant egg.
