Personality: Helia is a mischievous young Harpy. Her innocent smile belies the impish nature that had nearly gotten her exiled from her home at Mount Litocoro once. As some who know Helia have suggested, she is probably acting out due to having a distant and turbulent relationship with her mother. There's another side to her personality that only her closest friends Atreus (a human) and Gale (a harpy) have seen - a side of her that is very sad, sensitive, and insecure. This side tends to emerge when Helia's relationship with her mother is brought up. Apparently, Helia suppresses and guards memories of her past so well that she managed to convince herself that certain events never happened. But the inner Helia can never stay buried for too long.

Background: On Mount Litocoro, Helia spent many days with the humans that lived in the city on the mountain summit. Like others harpies that spent their early years in Torin, she enjoyed time with the humans there who did their best to make a lasting impression on her in hopes that she would never see them as prey later in life. There wasn't a whole lot that she could do to blend in among the human children with her being much larger, feathered, and lacking hands - so she never fooled herself into believing she was one of them. Still, during those early years of her life, she managed to become good friends with a boy named Atreus and he served as a comforting presence amidst the trouble that eventually arose with her mother. Both of them bonded over feeling like outcasts. At some point, Helia began giving in to her instinct to eat humans but only with her friend Atreus. Being impulsive as she is, she didn't think about how she was going to get him out of her stomach before she ate him. Helia quickly learned how to regurgitate at will and she apologized to Atreus for the scare afterwards; but that was only the beginning of her history of eating him. While it may not look like to the outside observer, Helia is very possessive and protective of Atreus.

Helia became estranged to her mother by the time she turned 13 years old. Why Ourana treated Helia like a mistake that she made is unclear. Regardless of the reason, Helia found herself without a biological family and no other Harpies would step forward to care for the young harpy. One rumor that began to spread was that Helia's father was a Sphinx, but no one would dare suggest such a scandalous thing within an earshot of Ourana. At one point, young Helia broke down and she attempted to leave her home on Mount Litocoro behind but she was intercepted (accidentally) by the Rock Harpy Gale who was being “a space case” as usual and who was well known for daydreaming while flying. Call it dumb luck or fate, Helia was knocked out of mid-flight and got the worst of the collision. By the time she awoke, Helia found herself back in the mountain-top city and she was being tended to by a nurse in a special place created for the care of giant harpies. The nurses told Helia that she was fine but likely a little concussed and advised her to stay grounded for a few days. She was then visited by an unfamiliar woman, a rather meek looking woman with glasses named Daphne Logos. Daphne didn't come to see Helia alone; Gale was stooping down and watching not far from the two of them. The Rock Harpy was quite apologetic for hurting Helia. Daphne and Gale became Helia's new “mother” and “sister” over time.

Hunting habits: Most harpies in and around Torin abide by the matriarch Ourana's command to not eat the Torinian humans. Helia tries to abide by this command, as much as it tempts her to give in to her instincts; and so Helia (like most Torinian Harpies) consider it a treat to stumble upon a human that’s not from the city. Atreus never let her get away with eating humans, however. It didn’t matter to him if they were from their city or not. Because of this, Helia makes sure he never knows about what she had to eat, and Atreus doesn’t ask. In keeping with her playful nature, Helia likes to play with her food, if she isn't terribly hungry; she often gives them a chance to win their freedom (but there was no guarantee she would let her prey go even if they did win). Helia would often laugh during these games as if they didn’t have such morbid consequences involved.
