BACKGROUND: "Leon the Thick", as he's sometimes called. Leon is a broad, muscular young man with "skin as thick as a naga's scale and a head that's even thicker". He seems to be naturally gifted with strength and a large build. While he does train to keep himself in good shape, he doesn't have any desire to get any stronger. Leon focuses his "Psiki" (or innate magic) on the power to heal himself and others when they need it. Leon has watched many return from outside the city walls with injuries sustained during predator attacks, and he wanted nothing more than to return them to full health. None of these cases haunted him more than the fatal injury sustained by a lumberjack named Dominik, who was also a craftsman, and was skilled in making toys for kids. When Leon was a small boy, the lumberjack would gift him toys carved from wood, and models of creatures and artifacts that the Torinians told tales about but rarely have ever seen with their own eyes. It didn’t matter if the wooden models were completely accurate or not, the fun was in being able to bring tales to life through them. Leon wanted nothing more than to save the lumberjack from his fatal injuries, but such mastery of that healing magic hasn’t been accomplished in Torin since Gabrielle the Healer lived. Leon has grown more proficient with healing magic over the years, and he currently hopes to be able to use his abilities to serve the Elite Legionnaires in protecting the city.
Leon loves nature and he is very fascinated with Dryads; he wishes he could talk to one without the risk of being eaten. For now, Leon talks to flowers and to plants, and he believes in his heart that a Dryad somewhere out there is listening. Naturally, he finds the city’s foremost biologist, Sophethia Korele (also known as “Crazy Korele), to be an interesting person and he enjoys listening to her go on about the creatures that she studies. His cousin, Rhea Taiyo, also spent a lot of time listening to Sophethia growing up. But Leon perceived that Rhea was only interested in understanding giant predators. When Leon isn’t training at a park, honing his healing magick, or listening to Sophethia, he likes to spend time with the hilarious Mocking Harpies, Dion and Eva, at the Sideways Legionnaire pub.
Leon enjoys making people laugh and no one has presented a greater challenge to him than his cousin Rhea Taiyo; the great-granddaughter of the legendary Pyros Taiyo is the most serious and intense person he had ever known. Growing up, Rhea was constantly trying to better herself and Leon was concerned that she was pushing herself too hard. He tried various ways to get her to just “stop and smell the roses.” Leon would wear a silly-faced wooden mask crafted by Dominik, and he’d prance around in the most absurd way he could think of, just to get Rhea to laugh. He almost succeeded at times, but it was as if Rhea wouldn’t forgive herself if she did allow her steely face to crack a smile. He is now in the same group as Rhea, as they begin their final trial to qualify to be an Elite ranking Legionnaire; he’s glad that he can be there for Rhea in the most intense and dangerous moment of their lives, so far.
COMBAT: Leon specializes in healing magic but he’s not a pushover. He is very big and strong. While he doesn’t reach the levels of physical power that Bia Pallas can when she channels her Psiki into her attacks, Leon is not too far behind her without such use of his magic. He’s difficult for his opponents to move, and he’s difficult for them to stop when he starts moving. Using his weapons of choice, the gladius and scutum (sword and shield), he’s a stalwart defender and patiently waits for an opportunity to punish his opponent with a heavy strike. The Iracal Crystals crafted into his weapons, like with all Torinian weapons, allow him to channel his magic through the ground (or “earth”) beneath him, as long as he’s making contact with the element; Leon is able to move dirt and rock to attack or defend.
