The Lucent Spire

Updated: Mar 29

The Lucent Spire:

Location: The Shimmering Sea; Iracal Island

Danger: Normal

Inhabitants: Glasps

In the eastern region of Iracal Island, toward the north end, there is an area where night never darkens the land. The cause of this lack of darkness is a monolithic crystal that extends upward and travels beyond the clouds; like other crystal formations on Iracal Island, this mineral absorbs light and energy from the sun, and then emits that light throughout the night. This area of darkless night has a radius of about 7 miles (11.3 km). Surrounding the spire which reaches up to heaven are massive, levitating crystal shards that the bravest souls may dare to platform across to ascend the spire. But adventurers must beware the hive of giant “Glasps” that have made a nest somewhere in the pillar of crystal.

Glasps:

Danger Level:  Medium

Occurrence: Very Rare

Size: 50 ft (15.2 m)

Glasps are best described as a human and wasp hybrid with a glass-like (or crystal-like) armor protecting various parts of their bodies, including the exoskeleton of the wasp-abdomen attached to their backs. For the most part, their appearance is human, but they have armored forearms and legs. The more wasp-like portions of their bodies are the antennae on their heads, the crystal-like wasp wings on their backs, and the wasp-abdomen that protrudes from their backs like a tail. Glasps are far more aggressive than Miaxi and stand about 50 feet (15.2 m) in height. They use their stingers, as well as their armored arms and legs to break through the metal defenses that adventurers who attempt to ascend the spire often bring. A swarm of Glasps will shimmer in the sky like stars that come out during the day.

The Shattered Crown:

Far west of the Lucent Spire are hills where the remains of an elven giantess rest. The giantess' long hair still retains its luminosity thousands of years after her death; luminous hair was characteristic of the Oiriopata. Some of this hair creates luminous, vine-like veins along the surface of the ground. Above ground, over the giantess' skull, are massive chunks of diamond and broken pieces of a polished gold frame.
