The Shimmering Sea and Iracal Island

The Shimmering Sea

===============

Danger: Normal

A large sea situated to the north-western edge of the main Felaryan continent. It was aptly named for the deep, rich blue of its waters, appearing to shimmer under the sun like a jewel. From the gentle waves lapping at the white shell sand beaches of the Myrodia coast, to the frigid and freezing shores of the Imoreith Tundra, to the fierce crashing waves upon dangerous coral reefs close to Iracal Island, the water will always retain its pristine blue color. However, its name comes even more from those majestic crystalline formations emerging here and there from the water, glittering in the light, almost blinding for the onlooker at certain times.

Those crystal are ranging anywhere from a few feet high above the surface, to enormous size, forming gleaming columns towering at a few hundreds feet tall for the most gigantic of them. In most case, the largest part of the formation is actually situated below the surface, and sometimes just below it, creating a great danger for boats. Some small crystal-encrusted floating islands also dot the sea, making navigation in the shimmering sea a dangerous business, only fit for veteran sailors who know their way through the treacherous waters, or for extra-resistant ships. A lot of wrecks of broken vessels lies in the ocean floor or around the crystal formations, making for some interesting treasure hunts or lures to bigger predators. For some reasons, the broken fragments of a wreck start to grow crystals on them over time, becoming unrecognizable for the most ancient of them. The giant predators living within the waters of the Shimmering Sea are not too far off from their cousins in the Topazial sea but when you put a Mermaid from the Shimmering Sea next to one of her cousin from the Topazial sea, you will notice that, due to the cooler waters, the former is built a little more heavily. A large number of Eidoron rocks of various size exist in the area and can be seen floating and drifting slowly above the blue waters and around the Crystal emerging from it.

Iracal Island

===============

Danger: Normal

Major Inhabitants: Humans, Inus, Elves, Harpies, Sphinxes, Reindeerataurs, Chlaenas, Dryads, and Dridders

Notable Minor Inhabitants: Small Nagas, Chilotaurs, Genies, Squamataurs, Chimeras

One of "the vanishing islands," Iracal Island has a mysterious nature that is believed by some to be linked to a civilization of giant warrioresses called the Oiriopata. The island is said to be surrounded by a field of distorted space, time, and light that is created by a mysterious power hidden somewhere within the archipelago of the Shimmering Sea. The radius of the field reaches about half-way to the Felaryan mainland.

This field is significant enough to make the island appear a lot smaller than it is. The radius of the field is said to reach a considerable distance around the island. Passing through the field to leave, or land, on the Island can have unpredictable and possibly dangerous effects. Some have reported a change in age ranging from 10 to 20 years, while others have vanished completely. These fatal occurrences are actually rare, but it's enough to deter the natives from tempting fate too much and to attempt to escape the bubble, especially considering they still have to cross waters patrolled by hungry Chlaenas just to reach the field.

At least once a year the entire archipelago is shaken by "White Storms," a phenomenon that can be likened to flying directly through a luminous hurricane. During those White Storms, a blinding white light fills the entire sky and it becomes nearly impossible for a person to see even 2 meters in front of them. Like the surrounding sea that shimmers in the light of the sky above, Iracal Island is littered with crystal formations ranging in size from pebbles to great monoliths. The creation of these crystals are speculated by the island’s inhabitants to be created by the region’s peculiar environmental phenomena, perhaps the same that causes the White Storms.

To the south east of the island stands the massive mount Litocoro and Torin city. The northern part is covered by a large forest, while the south give way to plateaux and highlands. Iracal Island has seen many battles between Sphinxes and Harpies.

Mount Litocoro

--------------------------

Danger: Normal

Inhabitants: Humans, Harpies, Dryads

The taller of Iracal Islands two mountains at nearly 6 kilometers above sea level, Mount Litocoro has been the site of many battles between Sphinxes and Harpies. Litocoro's impressive size and virtually flat top make it an ideal location for the giant predators to call home. Many signs point to the mountain's flat summit being unnaturally formed, which has spurred the belief that it was once occupied by the mythical Oiriopatan civilization. There may very well be many wonders and even dangers to be discovered within the mountain, left by the Oiriopata before their mysterious disappearance. Interestingly, it was not the Harpies that laid claim the summit first, but it was the humans that were the sole owners of this mountain top for many years.
