Traitor’s Leap is an island south west of Iracal Island where the Torinians have established outposts and it serves as their first point of contact with the wider world of Felarya. To them, the island is known as the “Isle of Rebirth”, given that name because the people of Torin (including the harpies that call the city and the surrounding mountain their home) have gone through a change since arriving on Iracal Island.
Before the Torinians established outposts there, the island was inhabited by sphinxes who used the island as a link between the continent to the south and Iracal Island to the north. The sphinxes called the island “Traitor’s Leap” because it is where Ourana and her flock her first fled to before making their way to Iracal Island. The island served as an important link between the sphinxes on the continent and the sphinxes that had pursued Ourana to Iracal Island. After a series of battles, the Torinians defeated the sphinxes there and severed that link. They remained there to ensure that the sphinxes would not take it back.
The Torinians have been shy about leaving the only home they’ve known for the last two or three hundred years, being that they haven’t even completely explored the island that they currently inhabit and that only the harpies who originally came from the other side of the vast sea know what lies beyond it. Taking the Isle of Rebirth was necessary, however.
Since establishing their outposts there, the Torinians have made contact with other humans of Felarya, the Kelermites who knew the island as “Yarzvan”. While their initial contact was a bit rocky due to the harpies from Torin seeing the foreigners as “humans they can eat”, it was quickly established by their queen Ourana that the Kelermites were off the menu. Ourana knew that they would never be able to keep control over the entirety of the Isle of Rebirth (Yarzvan) without spending tremendous resources and manpower (and harpy power) but they wouldn’t have to if they had allies there.
One of the products that the Torinians offered to trade with the Kelermites was a mineral that they called Iracal Crystal, a mineral that was highly conductive, especially to magic. It was abundant on Iracal Island, even being found in incredible monoliths that littered the island, and it was vital to everyday Torinian life. To their knowledge, this mineral was not found anywhere else in Felarya, and it was created by Iracal Island’s strange environmental phenomena. With a trading partner being established some Torinians began opening their minds to the idea of leaving their home to explore the rest of the world.
